TO ALL CLUB SECRETARIES/U25 CLUB MANAGERS/UNDER 25 PLAYERS
Last season was an average year for the SCIBA Under 25 team and I wish to improve on this for the 2010/11 season.
The Under 25 team was introduced at county level to give an opportunity to junior players to enhance their competitive play in matches against other counties with the intention of honing their individual skills and enhancing their maturity as club bowlers. Last season there were some instances of clubs discouraging their players from representing Sussex and in an effort to meet the needs of the clubs and the U25's it is my intention to encourage a larger player base from around the County from which to select. However, I am aware that many juniors tend to congregate within their own clubs to which, naturally, their first loyalties lie. This is unavoidable but if they are to improve their standard of play and realise their ambition to play at County and National llevel they must be exposed to matches that provide for these higher goals and their clubs must release them to do this even if it means they are unable to select for their own matches from those players.
Rule of thumb priority wise is National, County and then Club. If we don't keep to this simple maxim the career paths of our potentially top players will become more difficult to follow and we owe it to our Under 25's to encourage talent wherever possible.
SCIBA must by law maintain a record of REGISTERED U25 players for the coming season. If a player is not registered by his club he cannot be selected to play for the Under 25's. It is, therefore, of paramount importance that Club Secretaries/ U25 Club Managers ensure that details of their U25 players are provided in writing to the SCIBA Under 25 Manager, Charles Wright prior to the start of each season.
I need the list (CLICK HERE) completed and returned to me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE please and no later than the 10th August 2010.
Please also notify me of all Under 25 players who wish like to take part in the SCIBA
Under 25 Club singles competition. The closing date for entries will be 10th September, 2010.
We have another full Home Counties League fixture list for the Under 25's and support would be appreciated
from the young players in Sussex as well as their clubs. I will do my best to spread the selection process around the County but I can only pick from those players who make themselves available.
I'm looking to foster good team spirit amongst the Under 25's but those players not making themselves available for Home County League fixtures will risk not being selected for the prestigious National Inter-County Double Rink competition.
Our first 2 HCL fixtures are on 3rd October and 10th October, 2010 and I will be picking the team early so that everyone will be aware of their selection.
The method for notifying players when selected will be the same as last season. As with the senior team, an e.mail will be sent with the team sheet by the SCIBA Team Secretary to each club and this should be displayed on the Members' Noticeboard. Club Secretaries are additionally tasked at some clubs to notify players when they are selected.
I expect every Under 25 player to ensure their correct contact details are lodged with their Club Secretary.
Players will not be contacted on an individual basis as a matter of course and non attendance at matches
will result in County Rule (15) being invoked possibly leading to a suspension of up to 3 years from County play and County competition.
Players should also notify me of their availability but it is the responsibility of each individual bowler to ensure they know whether they have been selected and to either sign off on the match sheet or inform myself or the Officer of the Day giving as much notice as possible if for any reason, they cannot play.
Thank you very much for all your hard work and effort in collating this information for me.
